West Columbia Gorge Humane Society Daisy Fundraiser Monday, December 5th

Driving Miss Daisy Fundraiser Monday, December 5th, 2011 at TwilightDaisy is an amazing little pup who leaves an impression on the hearts of everyone who meets her at West Columbia Gorge Humane Society (http://www NULL.wcghumanesociety NULL.org/). Daisy has been fostered at my home as well, briefly, and I can tell you firsthand that this little sweetheart pulls at your heartstrings like a symphony cello player!

Daisy did not receive the care she needed after an injury when she was just a pup, and now that she’s in the good hands of the very competent and compassionate volunteers at the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society, she is finally getting the surgery she needs so that she can run and play like all the other dogs and will no longer be in pain. But this surgery is expensive, and like all other charities these days, WCGHS’s funding has been severely cut.

Twilight is a CAN DO kind of organization, and we know that our Twilight Friends are a kind and compassionate group! So this Monday, December 5th, we’re doing a fundraiser for Daisy. 10% of the day’s proceeds will go directly to Daisy’s surgery. And you can meet Cubby O’Brien (http://cubbyobrien NULL.com/biography/), one of the original Mouseketeers, a dedicated WCGHS volunteer, and a man who’s had some amazing experiences in his long career in music and entertainment in Hollywood and New York. Cubby will be sharing stories, taking pictures with guests, and signing autographs. We’ll be selling $5 raffle tickets, of which 100% of proceeds go to Daisy’s surgery fund.  There will be two raffle winners–one to receive a basket full of fantastic wine, and another to receive a $50 Twilight gift certificate! We’ll also have a few other surprises and goodies for those attending!

For those unable to attend the fundraiser but would like to contribute, please visit the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society’s website, where a link will be posted for donations to contribute to Daisy’s surgery.

Must Love Paws

Must Love Paws Fundraiser for the Humane Society of Southwest Washington Join us Monday, July 18th from 4 to 9PM and raise money to help support our furry friends at The Humane Society of Southwest Washington.

10% of all proceeds will go to the Humane Society, as well as 25% of every “Seamus Special” ordered. Seamus is the newest member of our family, a 7 1/2 year old Blue Heeler who we adore (we’re fairly sure he adores us, too!). We adopted him from the Humane Society, and now we can’t imagine our lives without him.

We’ve come up with a special pizza in his honor: thin crust, olive oil base, applewood-smoked bacon, whole roasted garlic cloves, candied walnuts, gorgonzola cheese, and whole milk mozzarella. A foodie’s delight! 25% of proceeds of every Seamus Special ordered will go directly to the Humane Society.

The Humane Society of Southwest Washington (http://www NULL.southwesthumane NULL.org/) is near and dear to us, as we love animals and we know they do a fabulous job homing and relocating displaced animals. The Humane Society of Southwest Washington never euthanizes animals due to space concerns, and will take in any animal in order to keep it safe and rehome it in an appropriate setting. We are proud to be supporting a worthy and, in our opinion, noble cause.

Please join is Monday, July 18th…we may even have a few fun surprises up our sleeve to make the evening extra special!

We will donate 10% of all proceeds during that period including to go orders.

We know you’ve been asking for t-shirts, and having had the logo updated and redesigned, we wanted to come out with a new, spiffy design that was as cool as our refashioned logo. So here it is! Shirts will be available as soon as the printer can get to production.

New Beer and Wine List March 2011

So we’ve got a new Beer and Wine List as of yesterday. What I’ve tried to do with the wine list this time, rather than a major overhaul, is to keep most of the current favorites, bring back some old favorites, and expand upon our “bottle only” list, bringing in some of my favorite wines that I truly love, but that are a bit too spendy to offer by the glass.

We’ll be doing some tastings of these awesome bottle only wines over the next several weeks to create some familiarity, so that you’re comfortable ordering them for yourself and your dining companions.  My personal favorites: Aia Vecchia Lagone, a structured and elegant Italian that offers a different but likeable flavor profile than American wines and goes well with our menu offerings (although very much reflective of the Italian terroir from which it comes, it still has very nice berry character); Owen Roe Sinister Hand, a lively Rhone blend from one of my favorite Oregon wineries; and Owen Roe Ex Umbris Syrah, a sexy, spicy Syrah full of black cherry, smoke, and earthy, meaty overtones. Owen Roe is an outstanding vintner, and they are close to my heart for their ties to Ireland. I believe you will fall in love with their wines as I have.

As far as our beer selections go, we’ve brought on some standouts (Orval Trappist Belgian Pale Ale) and have decided to use our sixth tap as a rotating selection, offering whatever great seasonal, specialty, or small batch standout offering is around at the moment. Craft beer in the Pacific Northwest is in constant evolution, and we’re happy that we are able to offer great craft beer. (A special shout-out to Les and Larry at Stein for getting us more Deschutes Abyss that we ever expected to be able to get. We much appreciate your efforts. It was amazing while it lasted, and we look forward to next year’s Deschutes releases.)  We’ve also brought a lot of Rogue Ales online, as we went to a tasting recently and were impressed by the quality and variety of their offerings. Some brewery’s offerings all taste like sharps and flats of the same one note–not Rogue. Their offerings truly show diversity and the skill of the brewmasters there.

We hope you enjoy the new list. I’m confident that there is something for every palate and level of appreciation.
